A Halloween prank with a heart

Looking for a Halloween prank that is actually funny? A Scare Letter looks like a lovely message from you. It is written in tiny text so they lean in close, and that is exactly when the jump scare lands.

Prank your best friend, your brother or sister, your partner or the mate who says nothing scares them. It also works as a Halloween gift for someone far away: send it by WhatsApp or text in under a minute, and wait for the message that says "I hate you".

Questions

Is it actually scary?

Genuinely jumpy. The letter is small and sweet, so they lean in, and a few seconds later something rushes straight at them with a loud sound. It's harmless, with no flashing, but it gets people.

Does it record them without asking?

Never. Their phone asks first. If they say yes, the clip stays on their phone until they choose to send it to you, keep it, or delete it.

Will I definitely get a reaction video?

Not always, and that's by design. A video only exists if they allow their camera, their phone and app support recording, and they choose to send it to you. Some people read without recording, some keep the clip to themselves. You'll still get an email when they've read your letter. No refunds if no video is sent.

What do they see when they open it?

A lovely envelope from openmyletter.co.uk saying you sent them a letter. Nothing gives the game away.

Can they open it more than once?

They can reread the letter, but the scare only happens once, the first time. It's a proper surprise.

Who is it not suitable for?

Anyone under 16, and anyone with a heart condition, who is pregnant, or who may be affected by sudden loud noises or frights. Only send it to someone you know will be fine.

How much does it cost?

£1.99 per letter, paid once by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. No subscription and nothing hidden.

Who's getting scared?

Mum? Your partner? That one friend who says nothing scares them?
